Ken has always loved and appreciated animals. He believes all living things, including humans, are interconnected. If any part is threatened or becomes extinct, this has a dominoes effect on our entire ecosystem, impacting our local and global environments. It’s vitally important to understand that threats to the animal kingdom rarely happen in isolation. Many times, humanity is shooting itself in the foot when we cause, or ignore, a species related problem. 

The things that threaten one species often threaten others - including us, from the tiny insects that pollinate the plants eaten by wild animals, to the world's people that depend on the animals. For ecosystems to survive and perhaps even thrive, we must protect our wildlife and their habitats.  In this way, we are also protecting our own quality of life for today and future generations. With this project, Ken celebrates the animal kingdom, both domesticated and wild, by photographing and isolating their image so that the viewer takes a closer look, getting to know them more personally. In black and white, this takes on a high-key approach.  In color, he moves in close to give you an "eye-to-eye" perspective. He sticks to a large format approach when printing to encourage the viewer to feel up close and personal to both types of subjects.
